Michelle Pham - Nails Harmony
25 Oct 2011

Running sound on Michelle Pham's Nails harmony short.

This two day shoot was shot on the Arri Alexa where I was DIT and sound mixer. Steadicam was setup and ready to go but we ended up with no time to actually use it.

Day one took place at a nail salon which gave a nice closed environment for recording sound. Unfortunately, the entire building structure was literally vibrating probably due to the industrial air conditioning units. As a result low frequency noise was picked up no matter where the mic was pointed. However this is something a simple low cut can easily take care of.

Assisting me on day two was Karyn Piedad. I was able to test out an interesting rig with two pencil mics picking up stereo and a center shotgun mic all at the end of my boom pole. Results turned out pretty good. the stereo pair was able to pick up usable ambient crowd chatter and the shotgun mic will allow the post to emphasize the folly of lead talent without having to do folly in post.
